This Friday,
June
18, 2014 Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment (SAFE) will celebrate
eight years of assisting victims of domestic violence become self
sufficient.
Sisters
Acquiring Financial Empowerment (SAFE) will celebrate eight years of
assisting survivors of domestic violence at SAFE’s 8th Annual
Appreciation Fundraiser & Afterglow to be held on Friday, July
18, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a special Afterglow Event
immediately following until Midnight at the newly restored Detroit
Historical Museum. This program honoring our many volunteers, sponsors
and supporters that have helped make our mission possible
culminates with the “Acquisition Award,” presented to a SAFE participant
who has moved from being a survivor to inspiring others.
Over the past
8 years, SAFE has assisted 852 survivors of domestic violence through
direct training, services, resources and referrals. Additionally, we
produce two annual events to help raise awareness
and equip the community with vital tools to reduce economic abuse.
SAFE’s O.P.E.N. for Business Conference provides training in
micro-entrepreneurship to become financially independent from abuse. Of
our participants, 25% successfully launched businesses that
are open today, 40% are still in the planning phase and 35% are working
and receiving continued assistance from SAFE. Sisters Acquiring
Financial Empowerment also hosts its annual SAFE’s Health & Wealth
Expo, which is designed to help everyone realize their
Health-Wealth Connection. The highlights of this event include free
health screenings, workshops, information & lunch. Over the last
five expos, our attendance has grown exponentially from 250 guests the
first year to 750 at the last event and we anticipate
over 1,200 participants this year. Supporting SAFE’s Annual Fundraiser
helps to support SAFE’s ongoing and annual initiatives.
SAFE is
dedicated to the financial empowerment of victims of domestic violence
by providing training, workshops and resources to equip program
participants with the tools necessary to become self-sufficient.
The organization’s success is a direct result of the hard work and
commitment of its volunteers and supporters. Since its inception SAFE
has assisted over 852 victims of domestic violence and this event will
serve as an opportunity to celebrate the growth of
the organization and the strides it has made.
"I am so
proud of SAFE and that within seven years it has developed into an
organization that is being recognized on a national level for its track
record of effectively helping survivors of domestic
violence to be free from abuse while obtaining the skills and resources
they need to obtain a new job, return to school and become
entrepreneurs.” – Kalyn Risker, Founder and Executive Director, Sisters
