TSU Women's Center Celebrates 10th Annual Luncheon with Vivica A. Fox and Angela Winbush

March 21, 2017 at 7:00 pm, Rhythm and Blues Artist Angela Winbush and Vivica A. Fox will share center stage at the 10th Annual TSU Women of Legend and Merit Awards. 


The award winning, super talented Vivica A. Fox is known for her many television and movie roles, she is a highly sought after actress, producer and entrepreneur who resides in Los Angeles, California. Vivica has been in the business long enough to achieve a successful multi-faceted career. Hollywood screen gem, Fox,  has triumphantly built an international brand that stands on the strength that women can do anything. With an extensive body of work that encompasses unforgettable television, stage and film credits, Vivica A. Fox is an inspiration as a Hollywood actress, generous philanthropist and accomplished businesswoman.

More of the same can be said for  the mega talented Artist, Angela Lisa Winbush.  She  was born January 18, 1955 in St. Louis, MO. 
She got her start at an early age singing at Temple Church of Christ, the church founded by her grandparents Bishop Austin and Sister Selena Layne.  With a passion for design and architecture Àngela enrolled at Howard University in Washington, DC as an architecture student. It was while at Howard she began singing for money to help support her college education. 

 Her singing roots were still deeply and firmly planted in the church she began singing with Richard Smallwood at Union Temple Baptist Church. She also began performing with friends in a group called "Hot Tea". This gave her exposure to the music industry as she and her friends began traveling around the country and opening for major performers.

In 1979 while on a gig singing with Stevie Wonder Àngela met Rene' Moore. Both eager to land a record deal the two decided to team up as a duo and formed René & Angela. After a string of popular hits "I Love You More" and "My First Love". After signing with Mercury Records in 1984 they had string of hits from their album "A Street Called Desire", some of which were "Save Your Love", "I'll Be Good" and "Your Smile".  Àngela also proved herself as a solo songwriter and producer working successfully with many artist in the industry including The Isley Brothers, Stephanie Mills, Lalah Hathaway and Sheena Easton. Àngela has sold over ten million albums and singles worldwide. She is a Stage III Ovarian Cancer Survivor and an Ordained Minister. <www.angelawinbush.com>

This year’s 10th Annual event honorees include some of Nashville’s finest ‘movers and shakers’ in various industries. They are: Dr. Stephanie Hale Walker, Vanderbilt University and esteemed First Lady of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ms. Cheryl White Mason, Vanderbilt Law School and HCA Vice President Litigation. Ms. Teresa Phillips, Tennessee State University Athletic Director, Mrs. Yvette Boyd of  R.H. Boyd Publishing and Ms. Vicki Yates, WTVF Channel 5 News Anchor and TV Personality.The TSU Gentry Center is located on the campus of the college at 3500 John Merritt Boulevard, Nashville, TN 37209. Ample parking is available on the Campus of TSU on a first come, first serve basis.

Tickets for the mega event are priced at $100.00 (for the dinner only) and at press time they were going fast. Tables and various sponsorships are available too at different prices.
